Sept 5th, 2011,
6:30 pmI’m currently sitting in the laundromat. It’s Labor Day, but I’m not feeling very festive. The majority of the day was spent cleaning out the basement with my husband, thanks to Hurricane Irene. We both lost quite a few of the items we had in storage down there, but all-in-all, the losses were mostly minor and their primary value was nostalgic. We won’t find out for another week or so if our washing machine was lost, though -- thus my less-than-nostalgic trip to the laundromat; it’s currently “on the fritz” from all of the flooding, but hopefully we can fix it.
I think this photo of my husband Brad taken in the midst of the clean-up just about says it all:

But Brad always puts on a brave face:

Fortunately these gems miraculously survived the floods, special thanks to Brad's encouraging me to try to rescue and salvage what I could from my flooded sticker books. I guess I'd forgotten how much I really loved unicorns...

This one wasn't so lucky, though; it came pouring out of the bucket into our utility sink, all dented and adhesive-less, along with all of that lovely brown basement floor clean-up water...

Rest in peace sweet, little unicorn sticker, and know that your duties serving this formerly 8 year old girl were well-fulfilled with flying (iridescent) colors.
